upbringing✦
Born in the Northern Free Marches, young Hiraya Lavellan grew up surrounded by their clan as they travelled from place to place. Nomadic by nature, Clan Lavellan avoided cities, finding the northern mountains their home. Hiraya was raised by their mother and grandmother— two very strong women— adored by both, and inseparable from either. Their meek personality contrasted heavily from that of their family, and thus they became a target of unrelenting teasing from their peers. Frightful and afraid to take a life, Hiraya was considered behind in their training to become a Hunter for their clan. As time marched on Hiraya grew desperate to prove themself, especially after the passing of their grandmother. While they eventually did move past their initial fears and pressed forward as a Hunter apprentice, the shadow of their reputation loomed alongside the nickname the older children gave them— little rabbit. Eventually, they struck out a deal with the Keeper: Hiraya would be considered a full-fledged Hunter and receive their Vallaslin once they returned from a mission to spy on the Mage-Templar Conclave alongside the senior Hunters. Hiraya didn't know what happened, at first. It was all a frigthful blur. They only remember awakening in the Fade, a bizzare green mark adorning their left hand. Buzzing with ancient magic. The rest is history, as they say. Legends would be born, and Hiraya would soon have to say goodbye to their name, for now.

veilguard ✦ ————
Following Trespasser, Hiraya has since then disbanded the Inquisition. After living in Kirkwall while they recovered and eventually reuniting with their Clan after five long years, they certainly had a lot of healing to do. Piecing their name and sense of self back together was no easy feat, and they couldn't have done it without their clan. After a long time coming, Hiraya would finally receive their Vallaslin. Roughly ten years since the events of Inquisition, Hiraya has also been tracking the whereabouts of the Dread Wolf— and with the subsequent freeing of the scorned Elgar'nan and Ghila'nain, it seems the former Inquisitor has their work cut out for them. They assist the up and coming Veilguard and its leader, Rook, as an advisor of sorts. As they spend time with the group, a budding romance begins with Hiraya and Davrin, the Grey Warden of their team. After the events of Veilguard, Hiraya and Davrin adopt a young elven girl named Huni as their daughter. In many years afterward, after the two are married, it is implied that Hiraya and Davrin have another child.
personality ✦ ————
As a child, Hiraya was terribly shy, meek, and quiet, often hiding behind the Keeper— which was a surprise from their caregivers considering their apparent outgoing nature in their younger years. This skittish nature was something they would be teased for, and something Hiraya would grow insecure about. Though they would eventually stop hiding behind the Keeper or their Grandmother, Hiraya still retained their anxious disposition. Others would describe Hiraya as fainthearted, but kind— gentle in nature, and an overall do-gooder. The events of Inquisition would shatter any sort of normalcy Hiraya seemed to know, and they were especially rattled in those early days. They tried very hard to fit into the idea of 'Inquisitor' that every else seemed to want out of them, but it seemed an impossible feat. Unsustainable, it seemed, as Hiraya's mind constantly clashed with itself. Having to act the part of an aloof, unyielding figurehead and protector of Thedas brought of heroic and seemingly chivalrous quailities within the young Elf, but the weight of the world put an unimaginable pressure on them. Sensitive and quiet— Hiraya would soon try to snuff out parts of themself to better fit the expectations place upon them. It certainly worked: Hiraya's adversaries would see a ruthless young leader and grow to fear them. An intimidating, wrathful side to them would grow in its place, and Hiraya nearly lost themself in the process. After the events of Trespasser, Hiraya felt truly lost in every sense of the word. Having been freshly betrayed by the Dread Wolf, Hiraya became disillusioned with themself. Were they the meek Hunter would cry every time they had to hunt, or were they the ruthless Inquisitor, sunburst, blood dripping off their blade, instilling fear and awe all in the name of saving the world? In time, they would find the answer: Hiraya was neither, and both. With time their wounds of body and mind would soothe, even just a little bit. Untangling the pain, and unearthing their name. In later years they weren't sure they would reach but nonetheless did, Hiraya would find themself exuding a relaxed, serene aura. Though they are not certainly devoid of worries (far from it, in fact), they display an easy confidence about them. Thoughtful, level-headed, and still gentlehearted, Hiraya still bears that fervent need to do good and protect the world they've come to love. They've since gained a humorous, whimsical streak, hellbent on making up for their previous years with as many smiles as they can. While they are certainly more easy-going since their bygone years, that temper of their still festers, deep down. Still, their wrath is only outclassed by their deep love of the world.
trivia ✦
___
- While very skilled with blades, and all things weaponry/alchemy (i.e. their Tempest flasks), Hiraya is very bad at arts and crafts. Still, this does not stop them from trying and having fun with it.
- Growing up and during the events of DAI, Hiraya always kept their hair tied up. During Trespasser their hair was undone in the chaos. Now, during Veilguard, they purposefully wear their hair down, and long.
- Hiraya is SEAsian coded, very specifically Pangasinan and Ilocano. (which I am! :~D <3)
- Hiraya does not bind, nor are they on any sort of HRT

upbringing✦
Lira was an abandoned infant discovered among the tombs of the Grand Necropolis. Was taken in by an elderly, senior Mournwatcher by the name of Lawin, who would subsequently become his main caretaker and mentor. Raised within the Necropolis in his early years, Lira was given the option to live in Nevarra when he was old enough. Lira would refuse this, adamantly so, set on staying with the Mourn Watch. Secretly, he grew attached to his mentor, whom he grew to consider family. Considering he was a mage as well, the Mourn Watchers agreed, and began to formally train Lira as a Mournwatcher. Determined he was to live up to the expectations of his mentors, and he excelled at it, too— taught the fundamentals of not only magic but that of the order. That Mournwatchers must let death pass through them like water, not to be consumed by grief. Essentially, the highest goal of any Mournwatcher was to achieve Lichdom, and Lira was no different. Even more than that, however, all they wanted to do by excelling was make their adoptive grandmother happy. Before that could happen, however, she passed away from sickness. The loss tore through a young Lira deeply, and though he seemed to recover after a while, they were never the same afterwards. The nine-year-old was put under the care of Vorgoth and Myrna, Mournwatchers who were close with Lawin. They would continue his training and upbringing, but would find the young Lira growing much more aloof and closed-off as years went by, seemingly pouring all of himself into his studies. Outwardly, it appeared as if Lira was flourishing— he was among the most promising of his peers— but his mentors understood there was an inner turmoil boiling within Lira as they grew up. Still, Lira would grow into a fine Mournwatcher, rising through the ranks lightning-fast. Considered something of a prodigy within the order, most agreed that Lichdom was sealed in the books.

veilguard ✦ ————Lira takes work quite seriously— perhaps a bit too seriously— to the point where matters not concerning theories of magic and the nature of the undead can often bewilder him. As such, he struggles with social interactions immensely, and can be quite awkward. Behind the persona of an unshakable Mournwatcher on their way to Lichdom is a person quite ridden with grief— Lira's most tender wound. Mournwatchers are supposed to move past grief, to not remain attached, but Lira cannot help the way their heart overflows with so much grief it hurts. When Lira intervened during an undead civil war within the Necropolis, a spur-of-the-moment decision plagued by fear of loss of life, he was advised to leave the order temporarily while tensions settled. Lira did not take well to this at all, their world seemingly crumbling right in front of their eyes. As they struggle to pick up the pieces, they feel lost as ever.Varric Tethras soon takes Lira under his wing afterwards, something he was thankful for— not that he'd admit it out loud. Truly, he'd not experienced much life outside of the Order, much less the Necropolis, so the renewed sense of direction truly saved Lira in such a painful, vulnerable time. During the events of Veilguard, Lira undergoes considerable changes— he slowly comes to terms with himself, accepting his grief and moving forward. Lira grows less closed off and much more openly emotional, letting himself feel the weight of all of his feelings for the first time in years. He also finds a new found family within the Veilguard, and slowly falls into a romance with the likes of Bellara Lutare. By the end of Veilguard, he cuts his hair short. Lira returns to his role of a Mournwatcher, but declines Lichdom. He continues his work as a magical researcher, while taking care of the Grand Necropolis.personality ✦ ————
I'll write this later but the TLDR is that Lira is the most emotionally constipated repressed mf you will ever encounter. But he's a sweetie pie I promise. Underneath all those layers. Very quiet and very very internal. Combine that with their flat effect and they tend to come off as cold. They can also get very intense about their interests as well (their magical studies). Very very emotional actually. Solas Dread Wolf watch out. Lira is coming for you
